Waterproof iPhone 5 on its Way?

Dip! Here goes your iPhone in water! Freaked out? Well, you certainly won’t with iPhone 5 (in case rumors are true!).

According to a website named Today’s iPhone (TiP) , the next generation iPhone will have a waterproof coating that will prevent it from severe damages caused due to water. This nano coating system by Liquipel (a California based company) will cover both inside and outside surfaces of the handset and will act as a water repellent, hence making it resistant to water-caused damages. According to the company, waterproof protection is in the form of vaporized liquid and is 1000 times thinner than human hair strand, but is extremely efficient in protecting iPhone from water.

TiP’s sources (that are claimed to be found correct in past) quote “iPhone 5 will have a liquipel treatment as it will be altering the wording on insurance”. However, they had no information on exact type of changes being made in handset’s insurance documents.

Some techies also say this technology will lead the handset to dissipate more heat than compared to the one with no protection coating.

As for now, you can get your iPhone (be it any) waterproofed just for $59.99. The company will treat your handset within 2 days after receiving it, and in case of an emergency (like you need it in 2 hrs), additional $10 will be required.

Here’s a video demonstrating how the technology protects your phone:

Liquipel cofounder says that the technology has been developed to protect phones from accidental damages only. Taking your handsets for a swim deliberately may prove to be fatal for it!

Moisture and liquid damage are said to be the top reasons why people claim for insurance on smartphones. Placing extra protection against liquid will definitely change the present scenario, and possibly, liquid damages could be covered under warranty for high end waterproof smartphones.
